If you return it dead within 30 days we’ll give you a refund or exchange and dispose of it for you.
If it’s been longer than 30 days, we won’t refund you, but we will adopt it out for cheap if it’s alive, and dispose of it for you if it’s dead.
Can you return dead fish to PetSmart?
Short Answer: The PetSmart fish return policy allows customers 14 days to return a fish, dead or alive. You must return the fish to the store along with your receipt and may need to provide your photo ID or, if the fish has died, a water sample. Freshwater fish purchased in-store can be returned with a receipt within 30 days for a full refund to original form of tender. They don’t take returns. Petco sells off-brand products with name brand labels slapped on them as a scam for your money. Once you realize this, you try to return it and they give you a fake smile and sorry to get you to go away.

Both Petco and Petsmart have a policy that you have to be 18 or older to purchase any live animals, include snails and shrimp. this is because they don’t want to be selling to kids who are just going to abuse the animals (yet petco is the one that abuses fish).
Can I return an aggressive fish?
The Unstoppable. If all attempts to stop bullying have failed then your fish may just be too aggressive for it’s tank mates. Many stores will take back fish if you return them soon enough.
Where do you put a dead fish?
Don’t put your dead fish in a body of water, such as a pond, river, or the ocean. Your fish could be carrying a disease which can infect wildlife. You can bury it in the backyard, a composting area, or a flower pot. Make sure you bury the body at least two feet deep (60 cm) so that other animals don’t dig the body up.

A link to print or view your Store Return Receipt is found in your Order History with your account. Once you’ve located your order, select “View Details” next to the corresponding order details to access your receipt. On the Petco App you can easily view it under the My Orders section.
